Whilst many Mentarians were on vacation during this past summer, 128 of our students were hard at work preparing for the World Scholar’s Cup Global Rounds.

World Scholars Cup, as many Mentarians may know, is an academic competition in which students must study a 6 subject curriculum in order to ace in 4 different events: team debate, collaborative writing, the scholar’s challenge and the scholar’s bowl. Mentarians had to apply this knowledge during the regional rounds that happened in May, as well as one of the two Global Rounds that happened in June and August. This year, 59 Mentari scholars have participated at the Kuala Lumpur Global Rounds and 69 have participated at the Melbourne Global Round.
This year marks yet another year to celebrate MISJ’s academic victories in the World Scholar’s Cup. Year after year, Mentari students have proven their outstanding abilities in debate, writing, scholar’s challenge and bowl, bringing home numerous amounts of trophies and medals from the World Scholar’s Cup Global Rounds that have taken place in both global rounds.
Over 4,000 scholars from 50 different countries have participated at the Kuala Lumpur (KL) Global rounds. Going against the likes of scholars from Singapore, Malaysia, and China, KL is regarded as the most competitive global round. And Mentari scholars certainly match up to the high standards of this event. In the senior division, we have achieved:
Team 641 (Steffi, Angie, and Janet)
- 13th place individual challenge (Steffi)
- 6th place challenge team

- 12th place writing team
- 12th place overall scholar (Steffi)
- 14th place overall scholar (Angie)

- 16th place challenge team
- 5th place team bowl
- 10th place overall team
Team 263 (Arief, Dalil and Cinta)

The KL Globals also featured an exclusive Skittles Division for scholars of age 9 to 12 years old. This year, Mentari welcomed its first ever batch of Skittles scholars that have certainly proven their worth. One of the outstanding achievements includes the 3rd, 4th, and 5th debate team award. Here are some of the highlights of our Skittles Scholar’s achievements:
