A few weeks ago, several students from grades 11 and 12 worked on a mural as a part of their CAS. This mural was part of a collaboration between Mentari, the local kelurahan and Essence Apartment to show our support of the ongoing Asian games. The mural took roughly 2-3 weeks to finish, with the students working on it after school hours. The paint used was donated by residents of Essence who are in support of the creation of the mural. This mural is located on the walls of the Secretariat Office of RW 03, right behind the SMA building along the path to Essence.
This collaboration was done in hopes to help develop aesthetics of the residential area, especially for residents of RW 03 neighborhood as well as Essence Apartment. The Lurah of RW 03 has stated that, "Because the RW office looks worn out, I informed Essence to repaint the walls, and they have agreed to letting a mural be done. I decided to invite students of Mentari to paint a mural on the wall. Just last year, some Mentari students painted a mural on RPTRA Taman Sawo," thanks to the previous Mentari students that has done a mural in the local RPTRA, the Lurah invited more students to decorate the surroundings of his office with a mural. Since Asian games murals are all over the town, he thought it is best that the mural is in celebration of Asian games.
One of the students who worked on the mural has also noted that,
“As a student and a citizen of Indonesia, it is important for us to show support for Asian games.”
In regards to this, numerous students from around Indonesia has shown their support for Asian games. Students have been a big part of the success of Asian games; the Kementrian Pemuda dan Olah Raga held a two-day workshop in which 60 students from 10 different national schools in central Jakarta joined. The students were taught how to create batik, and the end goal was to design one that represents sports and Asian games. The best designs were made into various merchandises from keychains to jackets. The director of PT Sritex Tbk who provided the venue for the workshop stated that "Even though the designs were created in two days, it looks highly professional and stands up to even the designs of the most talented,”
As students and citizens of Indonesia, it is part of our responsibility to support the Asian games. Although not all students can directly contribute to Asian games, there are numerous ways to show support in ways that even younger students can participate in, such as spreading news regarding Asian games, encouraging each other to watch the tournaments, creating blog posts dedicated to Asian games, buying merchandise, and more. Unity is highly valued at times like this, and we students can prove to others that we can do a lot.
