Ah, finally, the Pemilu season is here again and this time, I am seated amongst the other adults and teenagers, waiting for my name to be called to vote! I turned 17 a few months ago, and I am excited to be a part of Pemilu. Well, to be honest, years ago when I was only 13 and all I could do was wait for my parents to vote, I did not really pay much attention of the things going on before the Pemilu is held, but this time, I read articles, watchede Debat Capres-Cawapres, and paid attention to the posters on the streets. People in these posters are usually smiling alongside a logo of their party next to them— or sometimes even a teddy bear. I saw one with a teddy bear. Most of them have slogans, or reasons why we should pick them as DPR etc.
On the D-Day, people were already lining up early in the morning, so I decided to go
in the afternoon. Man, the line was as longs as the Nile River. But it was great seeing people meet their old friends, share some laughs while drinking the fresh coconut water near the TPS while waiting for their names to be called. The TPS was actually a very joyful place.
Anyways, I was finally called. The first paper I opened was for the President and its vice. It was a petite booklet. Everything was going fine until I open the DPR paper and boom.
What the heck was the paper so huge for?! Then again I bet it is because Indonesia has a lot of parties. Luckily enough, I’m pretty skilled with origami so I figured out how to fold it just fine. Even after seeing all the posters on the streets, I wasn’t even familiar with any of their faces. I wish they would’ve given us a guide to these people, like a booklet or something so we could know them better. The same applies to the other papers.
In conclusion, it was a cool experience. 10/10 would do it again (I must anyways). Use your rights to vote, folks. Plus, you get discounts if you show your purple pinky in several
stores (Kinokuniya gang where you at?) or get free coffee. Can't wait to see the results of the elections!
