Valentine’s Day is coming up, and I guess we all seem to be in the mood for love - or not,
and what better way to spend the day listening to a bunch of love songs? Whether it’s
bittersweet, complicated, or straight out of a fantasy, there’s a love song for any occasion. I’ve curated a playlist based on both recommendations and my personal favorites, ranging from slow to head-banging (mostly slow, sorry), about all types of love, including puppy love, heartbreak, and more. Below are descriptions of some of the songs in the playlist:
Boo’d Up - Ella Mai
If the phrase “butterflies in my stomach” actually turned into a song, Boo’d Up would
definitely be it. In this song, Ella Mai refers to somebody that has her lovestruck at first
sight, and has her feeling on top of the world. Listen to this song if someone makes your
heart go badoom, badoom

My Jinji - Sunset Rollercoaster
Starry-eyed is the feeling I’d use to describe this song, as if being blanketed in a long,
endless dream. The singer talks about how he doesn’t have the time to truly express his
feelings to his Jinji, however, although he’s never there, he never wants her to leave. It’s
perfect for dancing around in your room, whether alone or with someone else.

Lovefool - The Cardigans
One way or another, we’ve experienced unrequited love, or at least the feeling that love
doesn’t exist in a relationship anymore. Lovefool tells of this story - although we beg for the person to love us back, it just won’t happen, and that’s something we have to accept.

Coffee - beabadoobee
As warm and inviting as a cup of coffee, Bea’s song, although simple, will not fail to make
you feel soft, and sounds like coming home to someone you love.
The Less I Know the Better - Tame Impala
Yikes - this song describes the pain of feeling left out in a love triangle, and describes how no matter how we could try to forget about someone, old feelings start creeping back. Bonus points for the extremely groovy opening bass hook.

The Only Exception - Paramore
A classic, if I do say so myself. According to Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore,
this is the first love song she’s ever written, and it certainly sings of a first love - not in the literal sense, but the first love that breaks all restrictions regarding it. Throw in the catchy chorus and dreamy guitar, and a song that perfectly encapsulates young love is bound to make you (most likely) cry.
